Karlye Whitt, American soprano, currently resides as a Resident Artist with Tulsa Opera. The 2019-2020 season sees Karlye in her return to Tulsa Opera as Sophie in Emmeline after her role and operatic debut with Tulsa Opera as Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni for their 2018-2019 season. Karlye was also seen onstage in February 2018 for Tulsa Opera’s 70th Anniversary Gala: The Stars Align, alongside notable opera singers, Susan Graham, Sarah Coburn, Aaron Blake, and David Portillo, with conductor Timothy Long and director Harry Silverstein.
In her final year of her bachelor’s degree at Oklahoma City University, Karlye participated in the 2017 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she was selected as one of three district winners to continue to regionals in Kansas City. At Oklahoma City University, Karlye received the Stephen Dickson Encouragement Award.
During her time at Oklahoma City University, Karlye regionally premiered Michael Daugherty’s Jackie O as the title character and shared the role as the defiant sister wife, Eliza, in Nico Muhly’s Dark Sisters. Other roles include Magda in Puccini’s La rondine and Suor Genovieffa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica.
Karlye holds a Bachelor of Music from Oklahoma City University and currently resides in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
